One of Pete Tong’s essential new tunes for the month of February – 2011…
18th February 2011. Essential New Tune: Hercules and Love Affair — My House (Tensnake Remix) by PeteTongsEssentialNewTune

Just when you thought it was safe to let your pet hamster out for a little run around the bedroom floor, the irrepressible ‘Coma Cat’ bares its fangs for a final assault on the dancefloor jugular. Toolroom boss Mark Knight gets to grips with the oh-so-familiar bells and clicks with a mix centred around a bassline that will be well known to disco purists out there. Knight then adds a few key and string parts of his for a truly explosive result.

DJ Guest Mix: Tensnake

If you didn’t already know who Tensnake was, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a name for new heavy metal band or magician with a weird serpentine routine. He is in fact neither of these things, but actually the super cool German producer responsible for a plethora of disco and early 90s inspired remixes and productions that people are currently sucking up like an icy cola on a summer’s day. Presently, he’s riding the wave of hysteria that surrounds his most recent production ‘Coma Cat’ a track that is leading the way to the new sound of the 90s revival which is clever, innovative and inspirational. It is currently being supported by everyone from Aeroplane and Friendly Fires to Pete Tong and Annie Mac.
Here he tells us about his background, his influences, his ultimate DJ line up, why he owes Resident Advisor a pint and why he is so excited about his new album…
Q. If you could have your own club night and five of your ultimate DJs playing, who would they be?
Well for many years, I’ve been a massive fan of Maurice Fulton. He was one of the best DJs I have ever heard in my life when he played in Hamburg two years ago. Who else? I think definitely Prins Thomas would also be on there, he’s one of the best DJs for me. I really enjoy his sets, when we play together or whenever I hear him. And, let me think about it. I think the Metro Area guys. It’s difficult just to pick your favorite! I would also like the add the ghosts of Larry Levan and DJ Harvey! Read more

Fear not, Tensnake is not the nickname of a certain serpent-haired mythical monster; rather the musical alias of one Marco Niemerski, the German producer who’s been causing quite a stir of late with a particularly explosive track. The track in question is ‘Coma Cat’; a hooky, upbeat slice of disco-infused house loveliness which looks set to reach its in peak both in Ibiza and at the thousands of upcoming festivals this summer.
We caught up with its creator to get the lowdown on the track’s name, the inspiration behind it, and why he has a permanent grin on his face…

Those of you who have an obsession for the ‘new’ will by now almost certainly have heard Tensnake’s ‘Coma Cat’ and its unmistakable ringing hook. It’s a nu-disco, meets classic disco, meets 80’s boogie meets house hybrid that will almost certainly have you hypnotized.
The record has been bubbling since January and has been steadily attracting attention like iron filings drawn to a magnet. The catalyst to this activity was Tensnake’s phenomenal debut podcast on Resident Advisor – a site regarded as the last word in underground house – which first brought the track to everyone’s full attention.
“From the title track’s opening euphoric squeal of female ecstasy and the ensuing bells, clicks and congas that follow soon after, “Coma Cat” is drenched in such thick, honey-like loveliness that it would be churlish to criticise it in any way”. – Resident Advisor.
Needless to say the track instantly picked up a Mixmag Big Tune review and has been enthusiastically supported by various dance music power houses from Aeroplane and Friendly Fires to Pete Tong and Annie Mac.
Tensnake himself is a relative newby, and with only a handful of releases and remixes to his name, it’s still early days for the man known to his nearest and dearest as Marco Niemerski. Unsurprisingly he hails from Hamburg, Germany being the current center of the universe of cool.
This blissfully exultant track, ‘Coma Cat’ with its a big synthy bassline, old-school piano stabs and an almost overwhelmingly joyful hook will undoubtedly be a sure-fire festival hit for the summer from Melbourne to Ibiza to Miami. Expect to be hearing it relentlessly over the coming months…no bad thing with a track of this exceptional calibre.

It’s a genre epitomised by the new mix. With soul, funk and boogie influenced tracks from Reboot ‘Enjoy Music’ (Crazy P Remix) to Tensnake’s phenomenal ‘Coma Cat’ set to be THE festival anthem of the summer. Add to the mix cuts like Rasmus Faber & Alf Tumble ‘Wilder Side’ (Alf Tumble Discoteca Remix) which features the vocals of disco and soul diva Candi Staton and you have a carefully considered blend of the sound that’s taking over clubs and bars around the world.
This album is a collection of 24 such specially selected tracks that sum up the genre, a mixture of upfront party jams mixed in with some all-time classics. There is also a bonus mix of selected tracks with the downloaded version of the album put together by Bargrooves head A&R and international DJ Andy Daniell.
