Just when you thought it was safe to let your pet hamster out for a little run around the bedroom floor, the irrepressible ‘Coma Cat’ bares its fangs for a final assault on the dancefloor jugular. Toolroom boss Mark Knight gets to grips with the oh-so-familiar bells and clicks with a mix centred around a bassline that will be well known to disco purists out there. Knight then adds a few key and string parts of his for a truly explosive result.

Mark comments:
“There seems to be an over saturation of remix competitions at the moment, but these aren’t really proving a spring board for people careers. With myself as a producer and Toolroom as a leading label, we felt we had the vehicle to offer up something innovative and put something back into the development of up and coming artists. The ethos of Toolroom has been one of finding and nurturing new talent – ala Funkagenda and Dave Spoon. We’re looking for the stars of the future right now, so this co-production competition makes perfect sense. With the 8 bar loop I’ve provided, I’ve laid down the backbone of the track with enough scope for interpretation. What I’m looking for is clever use of the parts, creative sound design with any new parts included and a good arrangement. Over to you guys…”

As the founder and owner of the Toolroom Records stable, Mark Knight keeps himself on the cutting edge of what’s happening in electronic music, and as we head into the thick of the Ibiza summer season he’s pretty confident of what’ll stand out as the dominant trend for 2009 ‘ house music. The island’s clubs have been in the grip of minimal and techno for the past few years, but Mark reckons we’ll see vocals and live instrumentation making a massive comeback.
Mark Knight’s much anticipated Toolroom Knights mix compilation is due for release Monday 1st June. Packed full of exclusives, it’s the perfect soundtrack for this summer.
There’s a limited number of signed copies available to order in advance from http://www.toolroomrecords.co.uk. Have a read inside for a preview of the album and details of the full track listing.
Just when you think you know an artist, they creep up on you with something a little out of the ordinary and leave you scratching your head. Then you have Toolroom Knights Mixed by Mark Knight 2.0, which is less about stealth and rather a full on frontal attack that will hammer through any previous boundaries you may have created for the Toolroom Records chief. The result isn’t head scratching either, but more likely to be burst ear drums and sore dancing feet, as we’re treated to a genre-busting feast of electronic music that refuses to be pigeonholed and is sourced from the deepest and most obscure corners of Mark’s own personal Toolroom… Read more
This week’s Beatportal Weekend Weapons feature comes from UK DJ sensation Mark Knight, boss of Toolroom. Mark scored himself a bit of a worldwide smash during the summer with his tasteful update of Laurent Garnier’s ‘Man With The Red Face’, and his Toolroom label has rocketed through the year by releasing in addition to the aforementioned Garnier remix, four more Toolroom Knights releases as well as the odd club-friendly banger. Here’s his big three tunes at the moment…
