The Good Natured Grum

Seemingly capable of transforming any Indie/Nu:Disco act vocal and backing it up with irresistable 4/4 music, Grum is one act we strongly support and believe in. His studio talents blended with his vision of trend-setting sounds differentiate him to be categorized as the golden boy of Nu:Disco electronic music. Wicked material… Read more

Grum – Data Transmission Podcast 136

grum

You might have noticed that we love a bit of Grum round these parts. His prolific remix output rarely fails to delight, and his debut album Heartbeats was even better than we could have hoped for, bursting at the seems with big riffs, catchy pop vocals and epic instrumentals that brought together the best in euphoric electro house and newer disco. We’ve snared this irresistible mix from him that reads like a sort of Best Of Grum, with a few of his other favorite bits thrown in for good measure.

Grum – M Is For Music Interview

Grum

Grum is an artist of widespread international press acclaim. He has a top-5 selling album in the US electronic music chart. This year alone he has completed two sell-out DJ tours of the US with a third currently taking place. UK and international summer festival appearances included Creamfields, Get Loaded… Rockness and Australia’s Parklife festival. He has taken remix commissions from Lady Gaga, Axwell, Passion Pit, Marina & The Diamonds, Goldfrapp and The Wombats plus received a request to produce a track for the next B.O.B. album. Last week he released the single ‘Through The Night’ – a brilliantly care-free song, which he coined ‘sun-kissed cosmic electro’ – and all this within a little over six months. Graeme Shepherd aka Grum shouldn’t need any introduction but with a list of credits like this an interview is necessary.

Grum – Through The Night (The Remixes)

Grum

Choose an artist with wide-spread international press acclaim. A top-5 selling album in the US electronic music chart. A sell-out tour of the US with The Twelves. A second, sell-out tour of the States with a third already being scheduled. UK appearances confirmed at Creamfields, Get Loaded… and Rockness. Remix comissions from Lady Gaga, Axwell, Passion Pit, Marina & The Diamonds, Goldfrapp and more. A request to produce a track for the next B.O.B. album. Plus a poster campaign that became a national talking point. Choose an artist that achieves this in six short months. Choose Grum.

Graeme Shepherd aka Grum shouldn’t need any introduction. But with a list of credits like this amassed since the release of his last single, ‘Can’t Shake That Feeling’, in April, introductions are necessary.

Returning with his own brand of sun-kissed ‘cosmic-electro’, Grum proves once again that he cares little about the critiques. Serving only to the good-times with a release of the brilliant but carefree single, ‘Through The Night’.

Future disco donned out in stonewash and shoulder pads. ‘Through The Night’, unashamedly 80s, is as much a well-penned song – Hall & Oates anybody? – as it is big-room floorfiller; All vamped up synths, rising riffs and driving electro-bass.

A producer whose tracks frequently win support from the likes of Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Zane Lowe, Nick Grimshaw and Steve Smart to name a few, ‘Through The Night’ is another Grum master class in dance.

Released 6th October, ‘the original sits alongside a full club mix from Grum, the ‘Swiss Menergy’ Remix and a remix treatments from Tom De Neef, Perseus, Bit Funk and Beaumont.

Choose your day getting just that little bit better. Choose Grum.

Grum – Through The Night

grum

The new release from Grum’s ‘Heartbeats’ record label see’s the young producer taking another adventure down funky house, nu:disco, and pop. There is a heavy 80′s vibe happening throughout the video that has been described to us as a “Jerry Bruckheimer, Top Gun ‘bromance’ with mullets that deserves first prize!”

We must say – we are in full agreement. Another strong showing from Grum that we believe many will enjoy!

Grum – Summer 2010 DJ Tour & DJ Mix

Grum

Fresh off the release of his epic debut album ‘Heartbeats’ in May (stream below), Grum has announced North American tour dates and an hour-long “summer mix.” To be honest, need we say more? This talented producer has been all the rage in the blog-house scene for over two years now. His approach to disco house and electro is innovative and dead-on with today’s sound, and we are strong believers that Grum will be a name we respect for years to come!

Grum – Can’t Shake This Feeling

Grum

The very pop-oriented video for Grum’s new single (out May 3rd) was directed by The General Assembly and produced by Townhall. Quite simply some of the most stupid music television you are likely to see, but rather than bang on about that, here’s a quote from one of the directors, Ryan McNeill…

“Making this video was probably far more fun for those of us behind the camera than for everyone on camera. We provided spit buckets for our actresses so they wouldn’t have to swallow all the food. Even with that precautionary measure, I definitely saw gag reflexes kicking in during the scenes with baked beans. The actor playing the father was a great sport about shooting scenes on some frightening streets in downtown Los Angeles. I was just relieved that actors even showed up after receiving the call that they had been cast in a music video about the lurid underbelly of competitive eating.”

Priors – Remixed

This past summer we picked up news that the We Rock label was resurrecting. For those of you unfamiliar with the We Rock label, it was essential French House that held its own during the rise of Roule, Fresh Fruit, Work, and other classic funky house labels of the past. Anyhow, the kind folks behind the Discodust Blog seem to have a connection with the French artist Raw Man (the mastermind behind We Rock), and have shared the next update which has us very excited!

We hooked you up with ‘What You Need’ by Priors (involving Raw Man of Crydamoure fame) many moons ago and Eye Industries are finally coming through with a release of remixes, including Discodust favorite Grum and Hey Champ, which you can check out right now! The secret star of this post is the Raw Man remix of ‘Neverest’ by Hey Champ though, which was done in exchange for the ‘What You Need’ remix.

Jump Jump Dance Dance + Grum

If you’ve been following our site over time, you know how much we support the mighty Grum. Originally from Scotland, but now transplanted in Leeds – England, the young man continues to churn out essential remixes and innovative original productions. Here is just another example…

Los Angeles based electro rockers Jump Jump Dance Dance have already received some good feedback on the blogs for their recently leaked track ‘Do It For Love’ and are following up with the release of their first actual single. the post-punk flavoured ‘synths versus guitars’ anthem called ‘Show Me The Night’ will be out on etcetc. soon. Discodust favorite Grum delivers a great remix to ensure that both indie and electro-dominated dancefloors are covered.
