Exclusive Review: Erick Morillo – Waiting In The Darkness

Exclusive Review: Erick Morillo - Waiting In The DarknessArtist: Erick Morillo
Title: Waiting In The Darkness
Label: Subliminal
Format: Vinyl
Release Date: 8/1/05
Audio Sample: Listen

The King of New Jersey’s House Mecca gives the juicy spotlight treatment to one of his most savory vocal house tracks from his album – ‘My World’. The original mix alone was a solid piece of Northeast genius, but in all honesty, this dream team of remixes pushes the envelope of quality creative revision.

Superchumbo steals the show with his pounding prime rib roast that simply yells for exposure. The close second superstar is Kurd Maverick’s outer space perspective that uses a wide variety of studio techniques and effects that could bravely survive on its own without vocals. Other notable mentions are HCCR getting deep and dubby, while Tonka goes completely oldschool with an early 90′s approach… Read more

Erick Morillo Rescues Rancid Rocker

Erick Morillo Rescues Rancid RockerPint-sized Subliminal Records chief Erick Morillo helped Pacha sidekick Tommy Lee escape gun-toting thugs in Croatia last weekend, after the notoriously erratic Motley Crue drummer failed to impress a local promoter.
According to Morillo’s press agents the ego-has-landed house DJ was forced to intervene after security staff tried to seize Tommy Lee’s performance fee at the opening of a tennis club in the European hot spot.

“The owner didn’t think Tommy played long enough, and just wasn’t into it. Suddenly on their way to the after-party, Tommy was surrounded by Croatian armed heavies,” Morillo’s spokesperson explained, “Sizing up the situation, Erick urged pal Tommy to leave with him immediately on his private chartered plane.”

Exclusive Review: Morillo Featuring Terra Deva – What Do You Want

Exclusive Review: Morillo Featuring Terra Deva - What Do You WantArtist: Morillo Featuring Terra Deva
Title: What Do You Want
Label: Casa Rosso / Subliminal
Format: Vinyl
Release Date: 5/3/2005
Audio Sample: Listen

The German label, Casa Rosso, rereleases Eric Morillo’s first single – “What Do You Want” – from his recent critically acclaimed artist album – “My World.” nnWhat surprises us here is how this single received a double disc release via Subliminal, then a UK release via Executive, and now this. nnEach remix attempts to save the original mix from it’s poor presentation, as Morillo seemingly sampled the theme music from the 80′s US television series – “Knight Rider.” Although there is some decent music on this plate, we think KIT would have driven himself off the cliff if this is how he was going to be remembered. nnThe Fuzzy Hair Crooked Dub mix provides us a with a darker interpretation filled with the 2005 return to Acid influence, which should provide the darker house community something tasty. The Rhythm Masters dub adds some energy, filters, and disco influences, but this is far from their best work. nnMy personal favorite mix is the Kenny Hayes Sunshine Funk mix (sampled mix), providing a cool, summery outdoor funky vibe with positive, uplifting moments of deeper house bliss. Props to Kenny Hayes for saving this tune from being a disastor on the sales chart!nnTracklistingnnWhat Do You Want (Eric Morillo club mix) nWhat Do You Want (Kenny Hayes Sunshine Funk mix) nWhat Do You Want (Fuzzy Hair Crooked dub) nWhat Do You Want (Rhythm Masters dub)
