First up, Chocolate Puma go seriously big, with an epic breakdown, soaring piano chords and the very heaviest of beats that only they can confidently provide. And while they go straight for the jugular with their version, Guti conveys all the subtlety and attention to detail for which he has become known, with a heady, sun-drenched, Balearic incarnation that shows off his legendary piano skills and takes the listener on a soothing journey through gently rolling bass and infectious percussion.

It’s been a crazy few months over on the White Isle, but now that the season is finally drawing to a close, we can start to look back at some of the highlights from what has been a truly special year in Ibiza.

2010 will be remembered as the year that people returned to Ibiza in droves. Anyone who’s been lucky enough to visit the island this year will know that the dance floors have been packed, the bars have been thronging with people, and there has been a real party spirit in the air. And while there are arguably many reasons for this new lease of life – the re-opening of DC-10, the diminishing returns of minimal, and doubtless countless examples that we have overlooked – nowhere is this return to form more evident than at Pacha.

Defected Records announces the launch of their Producer Competition 2010, in partnership with Traxsource, Ableton and Loopmasters. Following the success of last year’s Producer Competition, we’re pleased to announce the 2010 contest.

The rules of the competition remain the same: Upload your tracks to the site, where they’ll be rated and commented on. In the second phase of the competition, the Defected A&R team will pick their ten favorite tracks, which will then be voted on by the public.

Last year’s competition proved that there is a wealth of undiscovered talent out there. This is your chance to see your tracks released on one of the most respected labels in the history of house music.

This is the fundamental question lurking behind what we do here at Defected and this month’s activity throws up a few potential answers, but it’s up to you to decide whether to accept any of them. Goa ’09 has captured the imagination of Europe, hitting the top spots in Spain and Italy and No.2 in Germany. Our global Clubland Adventure continues with parties in Japan and Spain, one of which saw Felix from Basement Jaxx take to the mic and treat clubbers to a spot of spontaneous MC action. Elsewhere in the world, the line-up for India’s biggest ever dance music festival has finally been confirmed, with Defected taking over the main stage on December 27th. Big singles from David Penn & Rober Gaez, Uberfett and Dennis Ferrer head up the new releases, the Shapeshifters hit the US from a month long tour, while new DJ mixes from Joey Negro, ATFC and Andy Daniell complete the current auditory delights. So hopefully there will be at least something here to float your house boat…

Defected will release Defected in the House: Goa 09 early next month, a 3 CD collection that celebrates the imprint’s love affair with the area. As the story goes, Defected A&R man Simon Dunmore recently visited India and was struck by the sound and vibe currently being offered by the country’s house DJs. “I have seen it first hand ‘ Indians love to party,” says Dunmore unequivocally. With this unfettered enthusiasm, Dunmore came back to England determined to recapture the feel with a mix of his own, a mix by ATFC and one by DJ Pearl, a native Indian. Eivissa 2006 is a triple disc collection, with discs 1 and 2 featuring Ibiza summer anthems selected and mixed by Defected head honcho Simon Dunmore. Disc 3 is unmixed, featuring Ibiza classics handpicked by DJ Pippi.

In addition, a smaller version of this latest release is available in the form of the Eivissa 2006 Summer Sampler, which offers 15 of the album’s tracks available for download.
