Deadmau5 – Collapses Onstage, Cancels Tour Dates

Dance music DJ Deadmau5 has been forced to cancel several upcoming shows after the producer collapsed onstage during a performance on Friday (July 30).
A statement posted on Deadmau5′s website explained that the beat-smith, who regularly rocks events sporting a giant, tricked-out mouse head, suffered “exhaustion and vomiting” after performing at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC. The DJ was rushed to the hospital and placed under medical supervision and the incident has caused the house music star to nix several live appearances.

With a headline slot on this year’s heavily anticipated Stereosonic tour and a #6 slot in DJ Magazine’s latest Top 100 poll, Joel Zimmerman AKA Deadmau5 is clearly right at the top of the DJ/producer tree, just three years after he was languishing in near total obscurity.
Never one for understatement ‘ this is the guy who wore his enormous mau5-head to the Grammy’s and has oversized tattoos of a space invader and a pair vein-slicing scissors on his neck and arm ‘ the YouTube video shows Deadmau5 living it up at an Ibiza Hotel before finding the inspired idea (we’re thinking he had some liquid assistance’) to scale the Hotel balconies and skydive into the pool below, much to the delight of on looking punters!
Having been something of a ‘free agent’ throughout his action-packed career up to this point, in-demand Canadian producer and live performer Deadmau5 has finally ink:
Beatportal was forwarded this curious photo of Deadmau5 today, who is sporting a huge neon green tattoo of a pixelated space invader on his neck. Ouch! You can see it’s still red on his neck. Apparently Deadmau5 fancied getting a tattoo and chose that particular space invader image. ‘So what?!’ I hear you say. It’s just another star getting a tattoo, nothing special. Yeah except, the image is actually the logo of French DJ and producer Joachim Garraud
The Canadian holding it down @ Ultra playing opening duties for Tiesto…this looks sick!
Toronto-based artists Hatiras and Deadmau5 have both been nominated for Juno Awards, which is Canada’s most prestigious music award show.
Ultra have just released the official video for Deadmau5 and Kaskade’s ‘Move For Me’ hit from last summer – the single was the first track to be taken from Kaskade’s studio album ‘Strobelight Seduction’. It’s quite unusual for a record label to release a video for a track seven months after the album was released but presumably ‘Move For Me’ is gaining mainstream popularity, at least enough to garner a polished MTV friendly video.
Toronto electro house star Deadmau5 has one of the most committed fanbases in electronic music currently, with his melodic electro and progressive house sound constantly debated and dissected on forums. A few aspiring producers out there are desperate to emulate Deadmau5′ sound, but one has gone further than most to copy it. In this video, Belgian producer Timofey shows how he managed to recreate Deadmau5′ recent hit ‘Ghosts N Stuff’ perfectly in Ableton Live 7.
In a twist that might seem counterproductive to building a unique artist sound, Deadmau5 and his longtime studio partner Steve Duda have put together a CD-ROM packed full of 100% royalty-free samples for music producers to use in their own tracks. Some would say it’s a charitable gesture, considering the burgeoning international profile of Deadmau5 and the influential releases of their BSOD project. If you asked aspiring producers worldwide to name the top 5 producers they most want to sound like for instance, you can bet Deadmau5 would be in there…
Free plug-ins, a portable hardware widget to run them, and a valuable lesson on differentiating between Deadmau5′s music and your own are all rolled up into this week’s roundup. It’s been an interesting week, to say the least.
Tune in to hear Part 1 of ITM’s interview with Deadmau5, where he talks about his acclaimed debut LP Random Album Title, out now through Ministry of Sound UK/Stomp, and keep an eye out for Part 2 coming very soon!
Deadmau5 has no interest in being in the middle of an 80,000 person crowd and “having the time of [his] life.” So how come he’ll rock audiences just like that at matter, The Warehouse Project, Amsterdam Dance Event and many more throughout the rest of the year on his world tour? It’s a bit complicated.
The mega-electronic U.S. label signs the electro house phenom as part of their North American representation roster. An artist album & 50 tour dates have already been confirmed…we just hope they don’t pressure the man to release “more commercial” music.
