While we are, at heart, a record store, we like to think of ourselves as a champion of the DJ community. Our customers are at the core of everything we do at Beatport. Our staff is filled with people who are incredibly passionate about Electronic Dance Music and a lot of us are DJs. We like to say that Beatport was designed for DJs by DJs.

The ceremony took place at the close of five days of sunkissed vibes at the Beatport Beach Party at Miami’s Gansevoort Hotel, where thousands of revelers were on hand to celebrate their favorite artists’ considerable accomplishments. (After all, what’s a dance-music awards ceremony without a party?)
And, in our humble opinion, this year’s results were the finest we’ve seen in four years of the BMAs—a comprehensive overview of the best and brightest in electronic dance music and club culture, from the underground to the superclubs.

Future Music Magazine,Mark Knight and Toolroom Records have teamed up with Beatport and Sonic Academy to launch a fresh and exciting ‘co-production’ competition – the first of its kind. The idea of the competition is to give up and coming producers the chance to work with one of the industry’s leading artists, launch their music career with the world’s premier dance label and be financially rewarded for their work, receiving 50% of publishing and an equal share of artist sales royalties. Not a bad deal at all.
The mechanics of the competition are simple…

“There seems to be an over saturation of remix competitions at the moment, but these aren’t really proving a spring board for people careers. With myself as a producer and Toolroom as a leading label, we felt we had the vehicle to offer up something innovative and put something back into the development of up and coming artists. The ethos of Toolroom has been one of finding and nurturing new talent – ala Funkagenda and Dave Spoon. We’re looking for the stars of the future right now, so this co-production competition makes perfect sense. With the 8 bar loop I’ve provided, I’ve laid down the backbone of the track with enough scope for interpretation. What I’m looking for is clever use of the parts, creative sound design with any new parts included and a good arrangement. Over to you guys…”

The Beatport Music Awards aims to recognize electronic music talent. With nominees based solely on Beatport sales data from March 2009 – March 2010, the awards are broken down by music genre.
There are 36 categories altogether: Best Artists (separated into 18 genres), and Best Track (17 genres, with both originals and remixes), with a final open question asking the public to name the ‘most influential, relevant and forward-thinking person in electronic music over the past 12 months’.
Voting closes on May 19th 2010, with the winners announced on or around May 27th.

Having launched last year to much fanfare (and controversy, not surprisingly), the 2009 Beatport Music Awards have returned with nominees revealed overnight. Aside from some of the more questionable genre/artist classifications, the full list of acts up for awards does encompass a large part of music that made a difference in 2008. This should come as no surprise, however, as Beatport select the nominees based on sales through their store. ‘To keep the awards fair and relevant to the whole electronic music scene,’ they wrote on the Beatportal blog. ‘The nominees were chosen based solely on unit sales on Beatport during 2008 and are broken down into separate genre categories.’.. Beginning March 18th, Beatport users will have the opportunity to vote for the best electronic music artists of 2007 in the first ever Beatport Music Awards. Broken down into 19 categories ‘ including Best Artist categories from each genre and the multi-genre Best Remix and Best Single ‘ the nominees for the BMAs are based solely on unit sales at Beatport.
