Yannick Aellen – The Catwalk Crooner

Yannick Aellen

On August 6th, 2010, “Dark Crooning”, an electro pop EP (3 tracks) will be released as the first in a series of four from Yannick Aellen on DSQT.

Released at long last, “Dark Crooning” is the culmination of Yannick Aellen’s many years of creative collaboration with producer Seiith. Made between Liverpool, London, Zurich and Berlin, this first EP contains rather dark, electronic pop songs. “The devil (is a woman I never slept with)”, which is vaguely reminiscent of Depeche Mode, has already become the catwalk song and favorite of Berlin fashion label Kaviar Gauche. Yannick Aellen’s music has long since been a standard for British-Taiwanese label Victim by Mei Hui Liu.

Yannick Aellen has already provided management, casting, choreography and creative support for various fashion labels and events (Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Todd Lynn, Stella/Swiss Textiles Award, etc.) as well as for stars such as Rossy de Palma, Vanessa Paradis, Patrick Wolf or Luke Evans.

“Dark Crooning” has been mastered by Nilesh Patel (Björk, Daft Punk and many more) in the Exchange Mastering Studios in London and was released on August 6th, 2010.

Akabu – The Phuture Ain’t What It Used To Be

Joey Negro

Prolific DJ and producer Dave Lee (aka Joey Negro) has unveiled details for his next full-length, entitled ‘The Phuture Ain’t What It Used to Be’.

Lee has released his fair share of albums over the past two decades, most famously as Joey Negro and The Sunburst Band, but The Phuture… will be his first as Akabu, a guise he’s used off and on since 2000. According to Lee, the new LP shows him moving away from the organic and live sounds of his other monikers for something a bit more, well, futuristic. “After a year producing disco I wanted to do something more electronic and utilize some of the great modern studio technology that’s out there,” he says. “I’ve still tried to attempt to inject some of the excitement of live players and musicality into the electronic music I produce.”

Housse De Racket + Edwin Van Cleef – Champions

housse de racket

Slowly crawling all over the house music oriented blog-o-sphere, French duo Housse De Racket leak a tasty treat from their forthcoming debut album ‘Forty Love’ scheduled for release on August 30th. Edwin Van Cleef’s remix of ‘Champions’ is (as quoted by the team behind Death Electro) “truly a track that lives up to it’s name, it’s that anthem you feel right before a big fight, right before blast off, when everything’s in slo-mo.”

The Gulf Aid Remix Contest

Gulf Aid Remix Contest

On May 12th, 2010, Mos Def and Preservation Hall’s Ben Jaffe met in New Orleans to collaborate on a song to benefit The Gulf Relief Foundation, an organization providing relief for those affected by the Gulf oil spill catastrophe. In an all-night jam session less than 12 hours later, they recorded the song at Preservation Hall with the newly formed Gulf Aid Allstars: Mos Def, Lenny Kravitz, Trombone Shorty, Tim Robbins and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The result: a remake of the New Orleans rhythm and blues classic “It Ain’t My Fault”.

Ben Jaffe, recruited Mark Farina, Chuck Love, and Joshua Heath to do remixes of the track. This is the final result!

Joshua Heath

Token Multi-Touch Screen – The Future Of DJing?

Token

Think you know multi-touch surfaces? Think again. We’ve just come across a video demo of the Token multi-touch, erm, pedestal, which seems to have come straight from the future. A clear sheet of glass that beams out video from your computer and accepts touch inputs in return, the Token concept has been designed by a chap named Rodrigo hailing out of Chile. We know it uses a rear projector for its video, but other construction details are scarce at this point; what’s really special here, however, is the way he combines it with a Traktor Pro controller titled Emulator, turning a few intelligent finger swipes into a kick-ass light-and-sound show.

Antranig – Sondos Essentials

antranig

If Danny Tenaglia and Erick Morillo were to create a hybrid, dance music producing, lovechild robot – it would be Antranig. Scared by this bizarre albeit highly unlikely prospect? You should be, because now he’s been put in charge of the equally terrifying Sondos catalogue.

Sondos is the badly behaved offspring of Erick Morillo’s Subliminal label. Designed to be an outlet for Erick’s darker side with a more tribal, deep, techier and edgier flavour than its parent label. So it’s no surprise that they the label is championing a new talent Antranig, a DJ and producer who matches that very same ethos.
