Super smooth Los Angeles synthesizer champs Classixx are about to hit the country for a run of tasty club dates. ITM’s Dave Ruby Howe caught up with the duo of Tyler Blake and Michael David to talk shop, how they’ve tweaked and twisted their sound over the years and the changing attitudes towards dance music in America.

Classixx: Starting Something New

Right now, Philippe Zdar is a happy man – even a hefty bout of bronchitis can’t disguise that. Zdar (real name Philippe Cerboneschi) says the seven year wait to finish his studio, situated in the elegant Parisian district of Montmartre, has been worth every minute. Already the likes of The Rapture, Chromeo and Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke are taking advantage of the Frenchman’s production and mixing nous. Having made his name as one half of Cassius, Zdar made a stunning return to form last year with his production work on Phoenix’s Grammy winning Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, as well as his own double-sided EP as Cassius (with Hubert “Boom Bass” Blanc-Francard), which was fronted by “Youth, Speed Trouble Cigarettes,” a guitar-driven, fist-pumping electronica anthem. In a revealing interview, Philippe tells Juno Plus about his current slew of production work and admits his frustration at Cassius’ small back catalogue. Oh, and there’s even a baby Zdar on the way…

This past summer we picked up news that the We Rock label was resurrecting. For those of you unfamiliar with the We Rock label, it was essential French House that held its own during the rise of Roule, Fresh Fruit, Work, and other classic funky house labels of the past. Anyhow, the kind folks behind the Discodust Blog seem to have a connection with the French artist Raw Man (the mastermind behind We Rock), and have shared the next update which has us very excited!

We hooked you up with ‘What You Need’ by Priors (involving Raw Man of Crydamoure fame) many moons ago and Eye Industries are finally coming through with a release of remixes, including Discodust favorite Grum and Hey Champ, which you can check out right now!
