The tasty puma of sweetness returns with a classic, remixed, and reminding us that if you truly understand the soul of funky house, equity in the game goes a LONG way. The production duo with the assistance of Colonel Red’s vocals nail it out of the park with a filtered out, sweet experience reflecting the power of house music when a dose of “realness” is added to the recipe. This is the type of music that makes one wiggle in unexplainable ways, smiling at strangers dancing around you. Read more

Several videos have popped up on the internet this week that each explore an interesting concept for using a standard turntable as a wireless controller. One creative gent from Stanford managed to use iPod Touches as controllers, while another inventive DJ has built a wireless turntable head-shell. Each video is a decent proof of concept, but neither has quite convinced us that they have much of a future in the professional DJ world yet.

We’re going to stick our necks out a little here and make a prediction; that Ray Foxx is a name you’ll be hearing a fair bit over the months and years to come. All we know about him for now is he’s a multi-instrumentalist and studio wizard, born and bred on the music. With influences stretching across the rockier tones of Guns N’ Roses and Jimi Hendrix to a firm love of the hip-hop beat with Timbaland, Dr Dre and beyond into the genius realms of Quincy Jones, The Prodigy and Eric Prydz we feel that with this pedigree Foxx is about to be beguile the whole world with his cunning. Now, Ray has produced a track that has unanimously united the most influential of dance music tastemakers, and one that we are extremely excited to be involved with.

A double BOOM from Reset! who brings two distinct flavors of underground funk on this new EP out soon on Cheap Thrills. The first sample after the jump - ‘Calypsoul’ – brings together filtered funky house, turntablism, and a dose of acid that will have you doing backflips like you were listening to Josh Wink for the first time and the year is 1996. ‘Love & Revolution’ continues down the slippery rave slope and vocodes itself into a tripped out blackhole that meets old school sirens and you guessed it – more acid funk! The final assessment equates to a dangerous release… Read more

Defected Records has decided to purchase the rights to re-relase this gem from Human Life. We highly agree with this strategic decision as FHMDC recognized this choon’s brilliance back in September 2010 on Episode 6 of our exclusive mix series. If you slept on this last year, we strongly recommend you fall in love this time around.
Human Life are veteran house music producers and musicians Joshua Collins, Matt Wasley and Rachael Starr, who between them have clocked up well over 100 releases on labels such as NRK, Bedrock, Ultra, Azuli and BMI. Their debut single on Defected is ‘In It Together’; a fresh and uber-relevant pop-synth-house track with a huge vocal that can be favourably compared to anthemic productions from groups such as Azari & III, MGMT and Junior Boys.
