The Set Me Free EP is a follow up to the innovative and critically acclaimed “Learn to Recycle” which was celebrated as one of the most adventurous pieces of electronic music to be released in 2008 and was described as the eBohemian Rhapsody for the acid house generation.
Phonat has frequently stunned us with his none-more-innovative productions over the last few years, coming across like a hyperactive Daft Punk on happy pills By the end, you’re exhausted, perplexed, flabbergasted, and left with the feeling that all other music is boring, unimaginative, repetitive trash. Wow. 10/10 – Data Transmission..
The eagerly awaited new EP from the Italian prodigy paves the way for his debut album release this spring. The lead single for the vested interest of this website’s audience will immediately gravitate to “Set Me Free”.
If you thought the Data Transmission quote was a bit over the top.
In this reviewer’s opinion, it’s a bit understated.
Phonat is such a refreshing producer in the land of EDM presently, and this production will stand proudly among his portfolio of outstanding dance contributions. The delicate and rarely heard balance of forward thinking music, funk, new wave, disco, electro, synth, guitar, and quite possibly more as this tune becomes more and more infectious with each listen.
It is our understanding that the UK-based outfit – The Young Punx – played a role in Phonat’s development to the EDM world. Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to see this tune receive remix treatments from The Young Punx, and a possible new MofoHifi partnership with man of the moment Grum. it would seem like a package made in heaven!
Although. it will be challenging to top the original mix. This is one of the finest tunes we have heard in some time. WMC 2009 will hopefully get a taste of this lovely gesture to the dancefloor.
