Loco Dice aka Dice Corleone probably can’t tell you the meaning of life, but when it comes to DJing and electronic music he certainly knows what he’s talking about. In this special feature, Beatportal asked the German DJ/producer and resident of DC10 and Cocoon, to give his thoughts on a number of topics including new DJ technology, electronic music trends, the art of mixing and DJ friendships.

Australia’s biggest selling tabloid, the Herald Sun, have conducted an intriguing video interview with DJ heavy weight Carl Cox. The British jock who was last year voted Mixmag’s number 1 DJ of the past 25 years, took time to talk through his current set-up (based around Traktor Scratch Pro) and the reasons behind his transition to the all-digital platform.
As a part of Beatport’s 5-year anniversary tour, the website invited readers to send in their questions to Beatport CEO, Jonas Tempel. Of the hundreds of questions received, Beatport chose the most relevant and most pressing ones to pass on to the chief. Here are his answers.
Having launched last year to much fanfare (and controversy, not surprisingly), the 2009 Beatport Music Awards have returned with nominees revealed overnight. Aside from some of the more questionable genre/artist classifications, the full list of acts up for awards does encompass a large part of music that made a difference in 2008. This should come as no surprise, however, as Beatport select the nominees based on sales through their store. ‘To keep the awards fair and relevant to the whole electronic music scene,’ they wrote on the Beatportal blog. ‘The nominees were chosen based solely on unit sales on Beatport during 2008 and are broken down into separate genre categories.’..

Lee Burridge recently described it as having the potential to become America’s equivalent of Berlin for electronic music. RA’s San Francisco correspondent Jack O’Shaughnessy can’t help but agree.
Ultra have just released the official video for Deadmau5 and Kaskade’s ‘Move For Me’ hit from last summer – the single was the first track to be taken from Kaskade’s studio album ‘Strobelight Seduction’. It’s quite unusual for a record label to release a video for a track seven months after the album was released but presumably ‘Move For Me’ is gaining mainstream popularity, at least enough to garner a polished MTV friendly video.
