Exclusive Review: Arno Cost – Darling Harbour

Title: Darling Harbour
Label: Serial Records

Release Date: none

We’ve had our eye on young French producer Arno Cost for a few years now – his first remixes for Laidback Luke and Geyster initially caught our attention, and in early 2007 his outstanding collaboration with Arias, “Magenta”, took the dance scene by storm, with full FHM approval.
In our eyes, Arno’s main appeal comes from his ability to infuse modern styles of dance music with the emotive electronic sensibilities that French producers are known for. The past two years have seen him do this quite well with electro and progressive house tracks, and now with his latest release “Darling Harbour”, Arno tackles a more modern, minimal influenced sound…
Sparse, glitchy, yet energetic beats provide the slick backbone for the track, while repetitive yet engaging synth stabs and an intelligible vocal hook capture the attention and provide most of the drive and energy. Other sounds and fx come and go throughout to make sure that there’s never a static moment, and the track takes a slightly epic turn during the melodic breakdown that is an Arno Cost signature.
Tested to great effect in the clubs, “Darling Harbour” is without a doubt one of Arno Cost’s best works to date, and a true testament to the producers strength, as he stays true to his core sound while continuing to stay relevant.
