From the early days at seminal NY house clubs The Loft and Paradise Garage, to his current residency at Stereo in Montreal, the Grammy Award winner has continued to develop his sound and live sets to stay ahead of the pack. Morales’ most famous joint Needin’ U celebrated it’s tenth birthday this year, the record that catapulted him in to the limelight and was responsible for the explosion of the remix and the mashup, dusting off and sprucing up old tracks for new generations of clubbers. Eric Prydz has canceled his seven-date tour of Australia and New Zealand, set to begin on New Years Eve, due to his fear of flying.
Anyone who’s has witnessed the hysteria his tracks have created on the dancefloor over the past few years will understand the special connection that Prydz has with what works on the dancefloor. ‘When I make music, most of the time I try and picture myself being in a club on a dancefloor somewhere,’ he told ITM. ‘And I make the music for dancefloors. Legendary venues closed their doors forever and new ones brought technological genius to the dancefloor. Clubbers protested, and we all debated passionately about the ever-evolving beast of electronic music. Curious isn’t it, how addictive DJing can be? How strange it is to feel music through giant speakers; to have enlightened club moments with perfect strangers and to feel connected through music…
One of the most requested class topics to date involves something producers affectionately refer to as ‘The Whoosh.’ That’s just a fun, onomatopoetic way to refer to those transitional sounds that are reminiscent of wind, waves and other assorted natural (and unnatural) rises and falls. In honor of the wintry season that’s upon us, our holiday lesson in production techniques will focus on creating the sound of ‘The Whoosh’.
Danny Howells turns the party out in an eclectic mix for the RA podcast.Take one listen and you’ll realize immediately why it’s so fitting that Danny Howells first “Totally Funked” party was held in celebration of Prince’s birthday. While the DJ/producer may often be lumped in with the progressive house scene, his love of pop music is undeniable.
