Knee Deep – Testament Of House / The 3rd Prophecy

Knee Deep - Testament Of House / The 3rd ProphecyThe boys from Knee Deep USA compile a double mix CD exclusively for Ministry of Sound Germany. If you’re a fan of this duo, your only hope of obtaining this is some serious Internet research…but well worth it by the looks of the track listing. Looks like the UK division of the corporate minded MOS didn’t have much influence on the track selections on this banger!

The Last Two Weeks In House Music Singles

The Last Two Weeks In House Music SinglesThe past couple of weeks have been very strong for house music lovers indeed. There has been an abundant level of high quality releases all within a short period of time; more than we’ve seen in quite a while.

As this weeks’ releases will show you, the electro craze sees no signs of slowing down. Of course, now that everyone is jumping on this bandwagon, it’s getting harder and harder to distinguish between the stale slices and the choice cuts.

Dave Cortex helps things out by wading through the sea of mediocrity and charting a map to the isle of memorability. May this installment of FHM’s ‘Release Recap’ further aid you in the quest for total dancefloor domination!

Exclusive Review: Raw Shape – Bodyrock

Exclusive Review: Raw Shape - BodyrockArtist: Raw Shape
Title: Bodyrock
Label: Voices
Format: Vinyl
Release Date: none
Audio Sample: Listen

Originally released on Villanova over the summer, this record caught the attention of the Pool E Music conglomerate, and more specifically its sub-label Voices. Voices has quickly come up in the ranks of quality labels over the past year, and this newest addition only helps to solidify it’s reputation as a home for quality electro-infused house.

The title track ‘Bodyrock’ is an infectious, dark, electro-driven groover, with just enough atmosphere to serve as an early set builder, and just enough toughness to seem perfectly at home in a funky house set. The light, airy break serves to calm the nerves, and then perfectly segues into the drop, announced by the sample ‘Get your body rocking’. The production and arrangement is not over-the-top in the least, and in fact feels welcomingly subdued. Yes, this certainly isn’t peak-time material here, but it will have the heads nodding and feet moving nonetheless… Read more

Chris Bohn + Jon Pegnato = ANTHEM ALERT

Chris Bohn + Jon Pegnato = ANTHEM ALERTDancerecords.com is offering an exclusive release off the newly formed domestic label – Atel – and let us tell you, this one is a banger!
Probably one of the best uptempo, hard, dirty, filtered, funky affairs heard in some time (thoughts of JJ Flores & Steve Smooth’s “Release” came to mind upon first listen), we had to do a feature on this release to showcase it properly. Big ups to Chris Bohn & Jon Pegnato for putting out such a fine package!

Shaping The Future Of The Digital Market

Shaping The Future Of The Digital MarketSales of music via the internet and mobile phones proliferated and spread across the world in 2005, generating sales of US$1.1 billion for record companies – up from US$380 million the previous year – and promising further significant growth in the coming year.
The findings have been released in IFPI’s Digital Music Report 2006, a comprehensive review of the development of the digital music market internationally.

Music fans downloaded 420 million single tracks from the internet last year – twenty times more than two years earlier – while the volume of music licensed by record companies doubled to over 2 million songs. Digital music now accounts for about 6% of record companies’ revenues, up from practically zero two years ago… Read more

Exclusive Review: Who Da Funk – Shiny Disco Balls 2006

Exclusive Review: Who Da Funk - Shiny Disco Balls 2006Artist: Who Da Funk
Title: Shiny Disco Balls 2006
Label: Oxyd
Format: Vinyl
Release Date: 1/24/06
Audio Sample: Listen

Did you really think it would never come back? Well, we all can thank Italy’s Oxyd label for launching two new electro-tinged remixes of the club anthem with one of the catchiest vocals ever laid down on wax.

The ladies will love it, and the headz might just enjoy the warped out Sex On Monday remix with it’s outta’ space synth moments, and heavy crunched out guitar riffs rockin’ this anthem to new heights. Reminding me of recent Coburn remixes, but with a lot more energy, this is tripped out electro clubby rock that dances on the fine line of underground & commercial. Sometimes, these are the records that do the most damage… Read more
