Olav Basoski – ‘Waterman’ Music Video
Currently being tipped as this autumn’s crossover dance smash, ‘Waterman’ supporters range from Fatboy Slim to a host of Radio 1 stalwarts, including Judge Jules, Pete Tong, and Rob Da Bank.
Over the 2005 summer, the track has steadily grown from an underground club staple to all-out arena-shaking anthem, as anyone who saw Fatboy Slim open his set with it at Glastonbury can testify. And with a matter of days to go before this year’s Notting Hill Carnival, expect this aural assault to be booming out from soundsystem after soundsystem…
‘Waterman’ is the work of Dutch house master, Olav Basoski, he of club hits such as Sil’s ‘Windows’ and Pancake’s ‘Don’t Turn Your Back’, and a remix resume that includes everyone from Moby to James Brown, and Bob Marley to Armin van Buuren and Todd Terry. His latest floorshaker features Michie One on vocals, tearing it up over Olav’s carnival-style beats. Michie, alongside Louchie Lou, first stormed to prominence in the 1990′s. Produced by both Sly & Robbie and Quincy Jones’s son, QDIII, the duo’s deft mix of dancehall, R&B, hip hop and pop, brought them to worldwide attention and a series of hits.
Joining the vocal and dub mixes are remixes from Friendly, with a barnstorming breaks rerub, and Azzido Da Bass, with a swerving bass-heavy remix that should see him back on the streets of West London following his mighty ‘Doom’s Night’. Radio 1′s Trophy Twins turn in two storming house mixes: one vocal, one dub – both tough and funky.
Other mixes released on Olav Basoski’s own label – Rootz – see’s the man drop a killer “Toss It Up Dub” style mix that eases up on the original’s vocals, and incorporates a more “Samplitude” style banger for the old school fans with a tougher than nails bassline, and a new vocal hook not present in any of the other mixes.
